Summer 2008--Goat Show

Sabine and I went to two local AGS shows this summer. We didn't place, but we still had lots of fun! After remembering the jug of water but forgetting a bucket, I thought I should make myself a little checklist of what to bring to a goat show so my poor goaties don't have to drink out of a red party cup (they were terribly embarrased but forgave me when they realized I did remember the baby carrots).

When packing for a goat show, remember to bring...

  • portable dog pen, tarp (shade 1/2 the pen), bungee cords (to hold the tarp)
  • hay bag and a few flakes of hay, grain (breakfast), feed tub, water jugs, bucket, treats
  • leather show collars, leather "lead", brushes
  • baby wipes, rags, paper towels

May 2008--New Additions!

Griffin and Sabine have joined us at Dancing Frog Farm! A definate perk of having your favorite goat breeder (Sunnydale Farm) also be a coworker is that I got hallway updates on my little goaties from the time they were born. It was lots of fun to visit every week, and take new pictures to show my mom in California how fast her "grand-kids" were growing. They are both weaned and as of May 9th are the newest residents on our little farm.

We ordered a pre-fab barn from Kloter Farms, which will be here in about a month. Until then, the goats reside in the chicken coop, as the chicks are still in my laundry room (they'll be ready to go outside about the time the barn comes). Lorene of Sunnydale says what they really need is a good fence and protection from the wind and rain, so a couple goats would be just as happy in a little run with a dog house for them to get out of the weather. Griff and Sabine are settling right in to their new home, especially enjoying the Little Tykes playground that I found curbside with a "free" sign.
